Less than a week ago, we made the decision.
YES we would live on the road for a year
YES we would invest in our life and business in this way
YES we would challenge ourselves to be creative and adapt
Today, Nick turned his computer monitor to me so I could read the email:
“You have been approved for your loan”.
Today, we commit.
Now, normally you would expect a cold sweat to form. You would expect a drop in your stomach, your hands to go numb, your mind to go blank as the realization that you are moving forward into the real unknown takes over all consciousness and its not just a decision you made a while ago, it is your reality.
But, at this point after the year we’ve had, we don’t have those scared feelings anymore.
Its hard to put into words the feelings that we do have. Its hard enough to generate cohesive thoughts and speak them to each other, much less to our friends and family and now potentially to the internet.
We’ve got loan calculators going, talks about floating money from one sale to the next purchase, looking at all the options available to make the right choice and not feel overwhelmed at it all. We have friends who are doing the same calculations and making a similar move, but from one house to the next and talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars and moving several zip codes. So on one hand, I feel relived that its not the massive amounts and square footage of a house… and on the other hand, we are talking about our home, though it be on wheels, and we have little to no clue what we are getting ourselves into.
Right now, not only is the loan approved but Nick is on the phone with a seller, talking about dents and dings, upgrades and possibilities and making an offer on the truck. After he hangs up the phone:
Nick: “What are you writing?”
Laura: “Just about today.”
Nick: “How I’m crazy?”
He’s not the only crazy one. Together, we have decided that our life should be bigger than four walls and what we can build on our own. Crazy for piecing together a truck and camper from all over the country? Maybe. Crazy for wanting to explore and tell stories through pictures and words? Not at all.
